Happy Birthday, Maggie!

Dear Maggie Joy,

I cannot believe another year has passed and you are 5 years old today! There is something about turning 5...you're not a baby or even a little girl anymore. Somehow you are now a kid! There is so much that you do on your own these days - it's as if you don't need me, but I know that's not true!  You pick out your clothers to wear each day, get yourself dressed, brush your teeth, make your bed, put away your clean clothes, feed Buddy and take him outside. You get your own food and drink when you are hungry and thirsty, put in your own DVDs to watch a movie or turn on your CD player to listen to music.  Little Miss Independent for sure.

But then, you still love for Momma to read to you in your bed. You still love to snuggle up in my lap and have me rock you while singing to help you fall asleep. You still want me to watch you go around the corner or into your playroom at night because you don't like the dark.

You love to do all things crafty - cut, glue, stickers, coloring, painting, creating, drawing. You always want to do a project with Momma.

You love to wrestle with Daddy on the bed. You'll hear him lay down and no matter what you are doing, will stop and run and jump on Daddy. I can always hear the giggles throughout the house.

You love Buddy, always calling him to chase you. I can usually find you both on the floor, playing and rolling around with Buddy's toys.

You love to watch survivor shows with your daddy.  You are definitely his daughter!  Maybe one day you'll be extra outdoorsy adventurous and the skills will come in handy!

You love to read books, play games on the iPad, play outside, and go to McDonalds.

You are a great helper and always offering to help wash the dishes, put the clothes in the dryer, bring in the groceries and put things away in the frig.

You give lots and lots of great big hugs and smoother us with kisses. Your favorite thing to do is call out "FAMILY HUG!" "FAMILY KISS!" and we love it.

You are amazing, Maggie Joy. You have brought so much love and joy into our lives.  We can't wait to see all that Jesus has planned for your life. Happy 5th birthday, sweet pea. We hope it's your best year ever with many many more wonderful years to come.

Love you BIG much,
Momma

Impromtu Play Date

It was MLK and the kids were out of school. At the last minute, I decided to take the day off and spend it with Maggie. We were going to have to be in the Woodlands for therapy, so I sent a text to my friend, Megan, to see if she and Cooper wanted to join us at Chik-Fil-A for lunch. Megan said she'd love to have lunch but they were at Hermann Park and could we join them there? Unfortunately, we weren't going to have time to go downtown and then get back to TW for therapy. Bummer. Then, the phone rings and therapy was cancelled for the day. So, I packed a quick lunch and Maggie and I headed down to Hermann Park to meet up with our friends.

It was a beautiful (but windy!) day to be outside and playing with friends. This age is so fun because they can truly entertain themselves and they had so much fun that we actually got to have quite a bit of adult conversation (yay!)

Picnic lunch. Train rides. Lots of playground time. Wonderful day spent with friends. Good times.

Maggie just adores Cooper. I'm glad that they enjoy each other's company.

Maggie & Cooper with their train tickets...they were just a little bit excited!

Riding the train through Hermann Park

So much fun on the tire swing (with some new friends)

Sweet friends....thankful!

Broken Pieces

We were on our way to an African Children's Choir concert and I was so excited because I was going to be able to see one of my old kiddos from ACC12, Eva - who is now the chaperone from this choir, ACC38. 17 years later and we will meet again.  The moon was soooo bright and full - it was if the sun was shining.

Maggie was in her one of her inquisitive/questioning moments, where hundred of questions are asked before any of them can be answered. Where/what/why/how/did you know.... etc.  Then this amazing conversation took place.

"Momma, you know how the moon has broken pieces sometimes? (half moon, crescent, etc.)
"Yes" I said.
"Jesus put all the pieces back together tonight and made the moon whole, right, Momma?"
"Yes" I said, smiling.
"You know how little kids like me have broken pieces? Well, Jesus will put all my broken pieces back together and make me whole, too. Right, Momma?"

I was completely taken back. Not at all what I thought would come out of her little mouth. I just figured it would be yet another questions. And yet, the wisdom from my sweet girl just overwhelmed me. I didn't have words to say. As I continued driving, tears streamed down my face and I praised the Lord right there for how He has worked in her life and what He is doing, even when we don't know it.  We have never once mentioned anything to Maggie about being broken or being in pieces, so I have no idea of where that concept came from - other than the Lord.

A few minutes later, I hear Maggie whispering and I figure she is talking to her imaginary friend.  She doesn't like talking to us about this friend, so when she has these little talks, we just let her be. I heard her say Jesus a few times, but being that I knew she wasn't talking to me, I didn't say anything.

She then says, "Momma, I was just talking to Jesus and he said that I was going to be just great!"

Yes, you are, Maggie Joy.....yes, you are!
